The Senoia Optimist Club proudly welcomes their sponsored HOBY ambassadors and parents at a meeting to celebrate the accomplishments of Daphne Thomas, a 2022 HOBY alum from East Coweta High School, who achieved great success by receiving a scholarship to attend the HOBY World Leadership Congress in July. John, an excellent student who always does his best, exemplifies determination through perseverance, symbolizing the three sophomores’ successes in attending seminars nationwide.

John is an excellent student who always strives to do his best. He consistently puts in the effort to achieve his goals, and his hard work has paid off as he excels in his studies.

Welcoming the HOBY Committee and Ambassadors

The Senoia Optimist Club was proud to welcome the HOBY committee team members Jean Cotton and Martha Sanford, as well as their three sponsored HOBY ambassadors Daphne Thomas (ECHS), Leo Jackson (Northgate HS), and Jenna Mollner (Northgate HS), and club President Tony Bell at the September meeting. Parents were also welcomed to the special session, where the three sophomores from East Coweta High School and Northgate High School attended the State Leadership Seminars at Georgia College in Milledgeville, joining thousands of other high school students from across the country.

The Senoia Optimist Club has reason to revel in pride with the announcement of Daphne Thomas being awarded a scholarship to participate in the HOBY World Leadership Congress! With a whopping fourteen sophomores of ECHS sponsored to HOBY by the organization, it is clear that the Optimists are taking the responsibility of developing the young minds and leaders of tomorrow seriously. Daphne’s achievement is a testament to the effectiveness of organizations like HOBY in providing young people with empowering and life-changing experiences. We can only imagine the great things that Daphne will accomplish with her newfound skills and confidence. The Senoia Optimists will continue to watch with bated breath as more of their sponsored leaders do amazing things!

The Senoia Optimist Club is proud to have adopted the Hugh O’Brian Youth mission in 2019. This inspiring program encourages young people to dream big, impact, and change the world. Through critical thinking, mentoring, panel discussions, goal setting, and project planning activities, students are challenged to perform 100 hours of service within the 12 months following their seminar. HOBY has been a life-changing experience for the 14 sophomores sponsored by the Senoia Optimists thus far.

The Club is now inviting community members to join their mission and attend their upcoming meeting on October 5th at 6 PM at the Senoia Area Historical Society (6 Couch Street). Inquiries can also be sent to the Club’s Facebook page or senoiaoptimistclub@gmail.com.

The Senoia Optimists Club is a shining example of an organization dedicated to fostering academic excellence and developing young leaders. Spearheaded by sponsoring HOBY ambassadors, students can attend State Leadership Seminars and the World Leadership Congress, providing invaluable experiences that translate into essential leadership skills. Daphne Thomas’s scholarship award to attend the HOBY World Leadership Congress is a testament to this program’s success, demonstrating its participants’ collective hard work. The Senoia Optimists Club is fully dedicated to helping shape future generations of talented and inspiring leaders. Their unwavering commitment is a beacon of hope for all those seeking to make a difference in their communities and the broader world.
